FAQ
How do I get started?
You’ll find a guide on how to start in services here! Or you can call or email and I’ll be happy to walk you through the process. Making the decision to start in therapy is often the hardest step to take! Once you’ve made the decision, let me help you the rest of the way.
What forms of payment do you accept?
I accept cash, check, and all major credit cards. I do not accept insurance at this time but my services may be covered under your insurance policy’s out-of-network benefits. Please contact your insurance provider for your specific criteria for OON reimbursement. If you do have OON reimbursement options available, I will gladly provide you with a receipt and superbill for reimbursement submission.
What type of therapy do you do?
My style of therapy is a blend of person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT). From a person-centered model, I strive to honor each patient’s unique situation, find the strengths and good in every person, and meet people where they are without judgment. Using CBT, I focus on how our thoughts and beliefs shape our perception of the world and how we can use cognitive tools to make healthy and effective change. Lastly, I integrate aspects of DBT focused on acceptance, mindfulness, distress tolerance, and emotion regulation.
What information will you share with my parents/ my spouse?
The trust within a client-therapist relationship is paramount. I therefore take your privacy very seriously. I do not disclose any type of information to your parents, spouse, family, etc. without your express written authorization (with exception to eminent safety concerns in concordance with New Jersey, New York, and federal mandated reporting laws). For more information on privacy, please see highlighted links.
What information can you tell me about my child?
If your adolescent is in my care, I am truly dedicated to respecting their trust and privacy. I am able to share any information your teen has given me permission to share with you. I will also share any concerns I have for the safety of your child and others around them in concordance with the New Jersey, New York, and federal mandated reporter laws. For more information on privacy, release of information, and mandated reporting, please click the highlighted links.
What if I want my parents/ spouse involved?
Involving family and loved ones in counseling is often a fantastic idea! When working with a counselor, I would strongly encourage you to include your supports in some way. Examples might include inviting them to a session, sharing worksheets from your individual meetings, or having me call to explain your treatment plan and how they might support you in meeting your goals.
If you are interested in having a support join you for a session (or more), you can let me know at any time. I will have you complete an authorization allowing your loved one to join you in session. You and I will then meet to discuss the goal of our family meeting as well what things you would like me to share and what you would like to remain private.
What if I have medical questions?
Commonly in perinatal counseling, you may have medical questions about your recovery as well as the health of your baby. As a mental health clinician, I am unable to provide medical guidance outside my scope of practice. I would be happy to connect you to some trusted medical providers in your area to assist you with this.
Can I bring my baby?
Update: In following the CDC guidelines for reducing the spread of COVID 19, all services are now virtual- so your baby is always invited to join in whatever way you are most comfortable.
Do you offer in-home services?
Yes! As a specialized service for new moms, I offer in-home visits where I bring the session to you. This is a great way to have intensive clinical support even during times when you may not be medically cleared to drive or are not ready to bring the baby out of the house yet. Please contact me for more information on setting up this service!
